When a Business Dispute Becomes a Reputational Risk
The end of a professional relationship does not always mean the end of its risks.
The situation
Following a dispute between a foundation and a former service provider, questions arose about potential reputational harm and the security of information previously shared during the working relationship.
Our mandate focused on assessing observable online activity and identifying vulnerabilities that might remain after a contract ends – without assuming that a dispute is evidence of malicious behaviour.
Our intervention
01 – Reputation monitoring
We examined relevant public online references, search results, media mentions and social channels for signs of misleading allegations, impersonation or unusual attempts to damage the foundation’s standing.
02 – Sensitive information review
We considered whether materials available during the engagement could pose a continuing exposure risk: internal documents, financial and contractual information, correspondence, photographs, recordings and confidential partner or donor data.
03 – Access and permissions
We identified the importance of reviewing shared accounts, cloud permissions, third-party integrations, credentials and other forms of access that may survive the end of an engagement.
04 – Impersonation and misuse scenarios
The assessment covered risks that could arise if someone reused organisational knowledge or contact details to impersonate a representative, approach partners, circulate misleading messages, reuse proprietary material or seek additional information.
05 – Evidence and escalation
We recommended a structured approach to monitoring, preserving relevant evidence and escalating credible incidents to counsel or appropriate authorities.
The outcome
The foundation gained a clearer view of the risks to monitor and the preventive measures worth prioritising. The work helped separate concrete exposure from speculation and supported proportionate protection of the organisation’s information and reputation.
The Amadare approach
Trust may end with a contract. Access, information and reputational exposure do not always end with it.
